The five states that comprise the New England region are well-known for their respect and achievements in public education. From the very beginning, reading and critical thinking were foundational here, and that streak still runs deep in this part of the country.
Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont regularly wind up on the top of the list in the National Center for Education Statistics’ (NCES) Assessment of Educational Progress report.
Courtesy of the efforts and strong support of educators around the region, the core lessons of math, reading, writing, and science are all things that New England students absorb early and keep with them throughout their educational careers. The Census Bureau puts the graduation rate here at nearly 92 percent, higher than the national average. And the rate of those graduates that go on to earn a college degree is a full 25 percent higher than the rest of the country.
The New England Region May Be Known for Expensive Universities, but We Can Help You Find the Best Value
You won’t find anyone questioning the virtues of a quality education here in New England, and few would deny that it often comes at a premium. Data from NCES tells the story – in all New England states other than Vermont, the cost of earning a college degree is higher than the national average. On top of that, the cost of living here is considerable. A 2022 report from the Council for Community & Economic Research put these five states in the top 15 most expensive places to live and work in the country.
That’s a price we’re willing to pay here for the community and the opportunities this area has to offer. And it doesn’t mean you still can’t find an excellent value among the top-tier schools offering graduate degrees in educational leadership here. With a careful analysis of educational leadership degrees that looked at some basic pricing criteria, we identified a range of master’s programs where future principals and superintendents can earn the credentials they need at a price they can afford.
